Hartlebury Castle
Preservation Trust: the plans for the future
The Hartlebury Castle
Preservation Trust has been formed with the sole purpose of
preserving, for the benefit of the people of Worcestershire
and of the Nation, Hartlebury Castle, its
gardens,
grounds, parkland and historic contents including
The Hurd Library.
The Trust
has an ambitious business plan which has been driven by the
conviction of those who formed the Trust, that people with
enough determination and vision can
work
together for the good of the local community and for future
generations. The plan outlines how the Trust aims to acquire
and manage the Castle for public benefit.
The plan includes a wide
range of enjoyable activities in which people of all ages
can take part. Some of these are listed below. We hope you
will agree that the Castle must be put into Trust ownership
to ensure that these things can happen!
Concerts:
There are plans to hold
concerts
given by both amateur and professionals musicians, providing
an eclectic mix of music for audiences to choose from. The
superb acoustics of the Castle Staterooms will ensure
maximum enjoyment by performers and audiences alike.
Exhibitions:
In addition
to a planned permanent exhibition outlining 1100 years of
the history of the buildings and its occupants there will be
regularly changing exhibitions of art and craft work by both
professional and amateur artists.
Workshops and Masterclasses:
Art, crafts, music, history – the list is limited only by
the imagination of people who will be invited to deliver
these and those who attend.
Bookings for private functions:
from
weddings to anniversary parties, corporate
events to special celebrations
–
you will be able to book
the Castle
rooms to provide an exquisite and unique environment for
your special function.
Historical and Archaeological research:
There will be ample opportunities for scholars and anyone
with an interest in history or archaeology to find out more
at this fascinating site. We plan to hold re-enactments and
special interest days, some of which may be in conjunction
with the County Museum which occupies part of the Castle
site.
Scholars visits:
The Hurd
Library can be opened to the public for interest visits or
for specific study sessions by scholars. The Friends of
Hartlebury
Castle and
the Hurd Library are already caring for the Library and
hosting scholars who come to study the collection.
Restoration projects in the grounds and gardens.
Garden enthusiasts will find much to interest them and
projects to watch develop. The Elizabethan Walk is one of
the first projects planned for restoration. The gardens at
the front of the Castle already offer splendid views with a
beautiful carriage circle that sweeps around the front of
the building.
Walks,
quiet places and scenery.
The 42 acres around the castle include a moat, a fishing
lake, woodland areas and a magnificent tree lined drive.
There is much to enjoy in this environment, from plants to
wildlife.
Refreshments:
There is an excellent café
in the Museum and visitors to the castle will be able to
enjoy the home-made cakes and light lunches.
We hope
that, if you have visited this web-site, you will want to
support the work of the Trust in making these plans a
reality. Please
contact us if
you would like to know more or are interested in becoming a
volunteer.
